New Extended Opening Hours
We are pleased to announce that we have extended our opening hours and offer extra evening routine appointments on a Monday and Thursday up to 7pm. We also run a Saturday morning clinic twice a month for booked routine appointments.
Letter to Patients - Crisis in General Practice
We are writing to you to highlight the difficult situation we currently find ourselves in, and to ask for your support in helping us look after you best, in an increasingly under-pressure NHS. We know that you are waiting longer for appointments, and we know how frustrating this is. Sadly, this is the reality we and many other practices locally and around the country are facing right now.
There is presently a recruitment crisis in General Practice and we have also seen an increase in patient demand, particularly for minor conditions that could be self-managed. This is a really important area in which we would really appreciate your help.
Next time that you are suffering from a minor condition (listed below) we ask that you consider using the following alternatives, before calling the surgery:
Your local pharmacist may be able to give you the help you need, so you won't have to spend time waiting for an appointment. Pharmacists are highly trained health professionals, who are experts in medicines. They can offer advice about minor illness, coughs, colds, sore throats, aches and pains, upset stomachs, medication queries, as well as contraceptive and healthy lifestyle advice.
The Minor Ailments Scheme – This scheme enables you to get the same advice, treatment and medicine from a participating pharmacy (as you would from your GP) for certain medical conditions, without having to wait for a GP appointment. You can get your medicines free if you are normally exempt from paying prescription charges or if you do pay you will be charged the retail price of the medicine or prescription charge, whichever is the cheaper. The scheme covers athletes foot / conjunctivitus / constipation / cough / cystitis / dermatitis / diarrhoea / ear wax / hay fever / head lice / high temperature / fever / indigestion / heartburn / mouth ulcers / nasal congestion / sore throat / threadworms / thrush /warts and verrucas. You will need to register for the scheme at the surgery – which takes approx 2 minutes - and you will be given a “Passport” which you will need to take to the chemist each time you use the scheme. PLEASE register now so that you have the passport ready to use in the future. One passport is needed for each patient.
You may be able to manage your condition yourself, using reliable internet sources. Two really good websites we recommend are: www.patient.info and www.nhs.uk conditions.
We hope that by considering alternative ways to manage your condition, it will allow us to provide more timely care for those who REALLY do need a doctors input.
On another matter, a question that we are frequently asked at the moment is "why are you continuing to take on patients when you are already very busy". The answer is that we are obliged under our contract with the NHS to continue to register patients.
Finally, we ask that you please be patient with us, and our staff, if we cannot always give you everything you need at the time you need it.
